XRF analysis

What is XRF?

ChemServe conducts XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis for metals. XRF is a non-destructive analytical technique used to determine the elemental composition of materials.  This analysis determines the chemistry of a sample by measuring the fluorescent (or secondary) X-ray emitted from a sample when it is excited by a primary X-ray source.

XRF can be used to determine compliance with regulations for:

  • US RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)
  • EU REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)
  • UK WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment)
  • Other countries

XRF is one of the fastest, most cost effective ways to make sure that you and/or your vendors are compliant with the metal and brominated flame retardant regulations.

ChemServe XRF services

Whether it is part of your overall compliance QA program or initial screening to determine non-compliance issues, we can assist with fast, reliable XRF screening for metals. These include lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium and bromide.

Consumer Product screening of toys, painted items, jewelry, and other Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CSPIA) items is invaluable when trying to comply with the new regulation.

ChemServe offers screening within our laboratory setting. Small projects or individual pieces we can screen for RoHS, CPSC, or Toxic Packaging compliance. By screening in-house we can charge by the piece. Alternatively, we offer on-site screening by the hour, by the day, or under a service contract.

XRF is recommended by CPSC, RoHS consultants, Toxic Packaging Regulatory Authorities as a cost-effective way to determine compliance issues within the respective regulations.

Contracting with Chemserve takes advantage of XRF technology without having to purchase an XRF, train employees, and maintain licensing and equipment. Leave the screening to our highly trained technical staff.
