Dr. Fitzgerald

Dr. Fitzgerald, an accomplished academic scientist specializing in molecular biology. In 2020, he acquired Chemserve, a prominent environmental testing company. Dr. Fitzgerald obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Melbourne in 1994, followed by postdoctoral training at UCSF. He later held faculty positions at Oregon Health and Science University and the Henry Ford Hospital, focusing on Orthopedics. He secured research funding from the NIH, NASA, and the NFL Charities program throughout his career. Notable research accomplishments include discovering three new collagen VI genes, identifying novel mutations in Orthopedic genetic diseases, and investigating articular cartilage’s response to microgravity in space.
As a committed environmentalist, Dr. Fitzgerald felt he could make more of an impact in environmental science. With the acquisition of Chemserve, he ventured into the field of environmental testing. Chemserve is a well-established company offering a wide range of services, including organic, inorganic, microbiological testing, and field sampling expertise. He has expanded testing to include the analysis of consumer products and manufacturing intermediates for toxic contaminants like lead and phthalates. Dr. Fitzgerald is currently utilizing his expertise in quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) to explore the emerging field of wastewater genomics. His ongoing initiatives involve developing wastewater assays for Sars-CoV-2 and other human pathogens commonly found in closed-water systems.
